Website helps individuals share STD test results with sexual partners

Christopher Lynch, MD May. 26, 2011

A new, confidential online sharing site for sexually active individuals may help partners receive reliable information about their significant other's sexually transmitted disease (STD) status.

The website, called U Should Know, allows members to have their STD test results posted to the site by college healthcare centers or other credible agencies. Individuals who use the site are given a form to submit to the organization that conducts this type of screening. Company representatives explained that members are each provided with their own unique password, along with three "share passwords" to give to their sexual partners.

To help ensure that the results on the site are up-to-date, users must be re-tested every six months - as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

"I downloaded the testing form, got tested, and before I knew it, my results were posted to my secure account. My girlfriend viewed the information on her mobile phone that same day," member Abraham Lishansky said in a testimonial.

The CDC reports that regular STD screening, along with consistent and correct condom use, are some of the best methods of preventing the transmission of these infections.
