'Goddess' Bree Olson has filmed a safe-sex public service announcement
Christopher Lynch, MD Mar. 14, 2011
One of actor Charlie Sheen's proclaimed "goddesses" recently filmed a public service announcement encouraging the use of condoms to help prevent unwanted pregnancy and the spread of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).
Olson, who recently retired from the pornography industry, filmed the announcement for the Get Rubber! safe-sex campaign. The actress recorded the statement saying that she does not have sex without ensuring that her partner is wearing a condom.
Individuals who participate in sex with multiple partners have a high risk of contracting STDs. However, recent STD trend data suggests that Americans are becoming more aware of available protection and testing for the infections.
According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention, 2009 showed the lowest number of gonorrhea cases in recent national history, and reports of syphilis did not increase for the first time in five years.
The CDC adds that increases in reported cases of chlamydia may be due to an increase in the number of people seeking STD testing. More testing may result in more thorough detection.
Any individual who would like to be screened for STDs may consider using confidential online testing services.
