Delivery reminds cast of Jersey Shore to practice safe sex
Lisa Oldson, MD Aug. 19, 2010
The antics of the cast of Jersey Shore are frequently derided in the media, but there is hope that at least some of their experiences may inspire young people to behave responsibly.
Recently, the group received a delivery at their Seaside Heights, NJ home that included - what else - caseloads of tanner, some booze and a supply of condoms, according to US Magazine.
"Having watched what these kids must endure for fame, we felt obliged to pull together and deliver everything they could possibly need to make it to the end of summer," said Rami Haim, president of Moishe's Mobile Storage, which organized the delivery, quoted by the news source.
This initiative may send an important message to young people around the nation, as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that sexually transmitted diseases continue to pose a significant public health challenge in the U.S. The center estimates that some 19 million new STD infections occur every year, and half of them are diagnosed in people aged 15 to 24. This situation costs the healthcare system nearly $16 billion annually.
