College health services educate students on avoiding STDs

Approximately 25 percent of Americans will contract a sexually transmitted disease within their lifetimes, according to the Tennessee Tech University Health Services, which are currently trying to educate students about the perils of unprotected sex, according to school periodical The Oracle.
Local nurses report that a pattern of infection has emerged, in which students seek out STD testing shortly after being intoxicated.
The service strenuously recommends abstaining from sex until sober, the news organ reports, since alcohol’s inhibition-lowering effects are not conducive to a candid discussion of STDs with sex partners.
Furthermore, individuals who are asymptomatic and unaware of being infected may encourage the spread of otherwise preventable diseases, the periodical continues.
TTUHS reports that chlamydia is the most common STD in the area. It is currently promoting safe sex practices, such as condom use and STD testing, in an attempt to clamp down on the local STD infection rate.
For individuals worried that they or their partner has a sexually transmitted disease, online testing may provide an accurate and discreet option for detecting STDs.
