Annual pediatrics AIDS event will take place in New York

Lisa Oldson, MD Oct. 18, 2010

The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation will host its 17th annual Kids for Kids Family Carnival on November 6 at the Skylight Soho in New York City. Each year, the event raises awareness and collects donations for pediatric AIDS research.

Adults and children are invited to attend the safari-themed carnival, which will feature work by international artists and photographers as well as celebrity-run games and activities. Families can decorate jeans donated by American Eagle and watch a performance by Kami, an HIV-positive Muppet from Takalani Sesame, South Africa's version of Sesame Street.

Among those attending the event will be several celebrities, including Mario Batali, Kenneth Cole, Edie Falco, Hugh Jackman, Isaac Mizrahi and Sherri Shepard. Also, various New York-based restaurants, such as Dos Caminos, Mercer Kitchen, Michael's, and Otto Enoteca Pizzeria will cater the event.

The pediatric AIDS foundation's efforts currently help increase accessibility of prevention programs and treatment services in a total of 17 countries. The international organization also supports AIDS research conducted to benefit children, families and women throughout the world who suffer from this virus.
